Thank you for your consideration of extending an invitation to Black Alley Band to participate in the 40th anniversary of the Havana Jazz Plaza Festival. We are excited to share our music through performances, community concerts, and workshops in collaboration with the Global Music Exchange Program.

 

Go-Go music is so much more than a genre to us; it is a love language that heals as it remembers and emboldens as it propels us into the future. Every beat defends against the erasure of who we are, and every groove builds pathways connecting us to our ancestors and to each other in the here and now. It's a living, breathing thing that grows and evolves, but never forgets its roots.​ To us, Go-Go is technology—an AfroFuturistic technology - creating sustainable energy that builds community even as the world tries to break us into isolated individuals.

 

Below, we share a few examples of how we do Go-Go - standing on the shoulders of tradition, but not imprisoned by it; putting our own spin on the genre birthed in our hometown, Washington, DC; and using it as a tool to build community throughout the world.  You will also see a formal bio and curriculum vitae to gain a better understanding of where we've been and how we've grown.
